What can I expect from my first appointment with the physiotherapist?

On your first appointment, you will be assessed by Suzanne (registered physiotherapist) with a series of questions about your medical history and any other relevant information. You will then be put through a thorough physical and biomechanical examination. At all times, your pain will be respected, meaning you will not be forced to submit to tests that aggravate your symptoms. Upon completion of the examination Suzanne will form a hypothesis as to the origin of your symptoms. This will be relayed to you in "everyday language" and any questions you have will be addressed with your consent. Suzanne will perform "hands on" treatment (including joint and soft tissue mobilization, use of modalities) to attempt to correct the biomechanical issues causing your pain. This will be followed by the prescription of exercises (range of motion, stretching, strengthening and biomechanical re-education.) that will compliment the mobilizations performed within treatment sessions, and to further progress the recovery until your next treatment session.
